Looking for the perfect long weekend escape? 3 days in Banff National Park offers a bucket list-worthy mix of crystal-clear lakes, alpine hikes, and cozy mountain town vibes. Whether you’re chasing adventure or peaceful nature moments, Banff is a dream destination.

We recently explored Banff over a long weekend. You can fly in from Orlando International Airport (MCO) on a 6-hour nonstop flight to Calgary on West Jet Airlines (Low-cost Canadian carrier). From there, it’s a scenic 1.5-hour drive to Banff. We stayed at the Otter Hotel, a charming and centrally located stay that made it easy to explore everything on our list—and grab a coffee before heading out each morning.
Despite a few unexpected hiccups (looking at you, airline delays and thunderstorms in May), this trip was absolutely worth it. Here’s how we spent our time—and how you can make the most of yours.

How to Spend 3 Days in Banff National Park: Our Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Johnston Canyon & the Ink Pots
Johnston Canyon—a must-see trail for waterfalls, canyon views, and easy accessibility. This family-friendly hike is about 3 km (round-trip) to the Upper Falls, but if you’re feeling adventurous, continue another 3 km to the Ink Pots, a colorful series of cold mineral springs in a peaceful meadow. The extra hike is worth it if you have the time and energy!

Day 2: Lake Louise & Teahouse Trails
Start your getaway with one of Banff’s most iconic spots—Lake Louise. Even in late spring, the lake’s surreal turquoise water will take your breath away.
We attempted to hike the Plain of Six Glaciers to the historic teahouse but encountered avalanches blocking the trail and couldn’t reach the glacier viewing point. Teahouses typically open in mid- to late June, so if you’re traveling in the summer, include them in your plans!
If you’re not on a tight budget, treat yourself to afternoon tea at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise. It’s a splurge with a view—but we decided to skip it in favor of more trail time and budget-friendly snacks.

Day 3: Lake Moraine (Or at Least, Try!)
Our final day was supposed to include Lake Moraine, another iconic lake known for its deep blue waters and dramatic peaks. Unfortunately, bad weather and airline delays foiled our plan.
Still, if the stars align for you, don’t miss it. Access is restricted to shuttle services during peak season, so be sure to reserve in advance through the Parks Canada website.
